2026 Trip - Day 23: A relaxing day and a long walk by Nagara River

Today is my third day in Gifu City. I will be staying here one more night before moving to another place or town tomorrow.

I woke up early and left the hostel around 8 am. I owed the hostel 590 yen, so I wanted to withdraw the money before the owner came to ask.

There is a 7 Eleven about a 16 minute walk away, but since I usually buy my food from Supermarket Big, I decided to walk further to another 7 Eleven that is next to "The Big" so I could also stop by the supermarket. The round trip was about an hour, and the walk followed the Nagara River. The morning was really nice, and there were quite a few people jogging and walking along the river.

The transaction at 7 Eleven was easy. There were no transaction fees from the machine, and I also use Macquarie Bank, which does not charge international fees. At the supermarket, I bought a few things: a 500 g pack of black noodles for 297 yen, a soy drink, two wasabi fish buns for 99 yen each, and another bun that I was not sure about. I also bought a 2 litre bottle of water for around 50 yen.

Takoyaki 297 Yen

This was about 50 yen. The taste is not very strong but still good.

I bought the largest size, there were small, medium, and large. Yesterday I bought a small one and it was not bad so today I decided to get it again, it the cheapest "meal".

This taste quite bad. Never again.

I did not buy this but it was tiny and cute.

Water 2 L for this price only available in Big Supermarket.

Japanese skin care is so much cheaper here.

Not sure what is this but I see it everywhere.

After coming back to the hostel, my Swiss roommate was getting ready to leave. After saying goodbye to her, I felt quite tired from the long walk. I decided to relax and enjoy having the room to myself again. Since I walked a lot yesterday, my feet were still a little sore, so I took it easy for most of the day.

In the evening, just before it got dark, I suddenly had a sweet craving. I decided to walk back to Supermarket Big again to get some chocolate. Altogether, I walked about two hours today along the Nagara River!
